Best Boston Baked Beans ~ Easy Peasy Life Matters #HealthyRecipes #FactsNotFads #CleanEating

This pretty weather is making us hungry for picnic food! Boston Baked Beans has been a yearly tradition for us for a really long time now. Over the years our recipe has changed and developed to become as healthy and tasty as we can make it. Honestly it’s way good!

Best Boston Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked beans drained (we use pinto)
  • 1 onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 bell peppers chopped
  • ½ pound bacon (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 2-3 Tbs. yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbs. minced onion
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • ¼ tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbs. molasses
  • salt, pepper and cayenne to taste

Directions

Cook bacon and set aside. Saute’ onions, garlic and peppers in the bacon grease until caramelized. If you are not using bacon use water instead of bacon grease. Crumple bacon, if using, and put all ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook on high for at least 4 hours. If the mixture is too thick just add a little water.

Now our daily report!

Amaranth cereal topped with fruit, nuts and coconut and a smoothie for breakfast. The amaranth cereal was a new recipe for us but it worked out really well and tasted good!

We have a birthday at our house today! We always let the birthday person pick their favorite food on their special day. This time that meant summer salads and fried chicken! The Boston Baked Beans above is in high demand for summer!

Dinner will be leftovers. Yes, we have that a lot! Why stop a good thing?

How much do I love that there’s no sugar in this recipe! I have some pinto beans in the pantry and I think I’ll throw them in the crockpot today using your recipe. I’ll have to sub local honey for the molasses, but I bet it will still turn out great! Thank you!
