Buttermilk Syrup. Serve with waffles, pancakes, French toast, German pancakes and ice cream. Also makes a great gift!

Last winter we tried buttermilk syrup for the first time and boy did we fall in love! It’s so creamy and tastes like liquid caramel. With this new found love we decided to make up a whole bunch and give some away for Christmas gifts. We wanted to share it with you to go along with our Christmas in July theme. However it doesn’t have to be December to enjoy this tasty treat!

We found this recipe earlier this year and revised it to have ingredients that fit our needs. Everyone who tries it loves it! It can be used on waffles, pancakes, French toast, German pancakes, ice cream and anything else you want to sweeten up a little. Just remember to refrigerate if you have any left over 😉

It’s canning season were we live so we like to pick up a bunch or jars to give them in right now. They are much more expensive during the winter. Or another cute thought is to save all your leftover pickle and mayonnaise type jars. That way each jar of syrup is unique and fun! Another bonus is that the syrup freezes so you can make a big batch now and throw it in the freezer until Christmas time. Having it all ready to go right now really helps for a more stress free December!

We have never had anything except whole buttermilk available where we live so that is all we have ever used. I’m afraid I can’t tell you if another kind would work.

We have never put the syrup through any kind of canning process. We’ve been able to keep it in our fridge for about a week and it still tastes very fresh. If you want to keep it fresh longer you can freeze it. We’ve frozen it for several months and it still tastes great when we pull it out and use it.

I hope this answers your questions, please let me know if you have anything else I can help you with!
      Have a wonderful day 🙂

Hi there! My husband and I made a batch of this (it tastes amazing) but when we stored it in jars, the foam settled funny and it does not look pretty. Maybe it is because we had poured it into the jars immediately after we made it when it was still hot, or because we put the lids on right away after we poured it? We wanted to include this in our christmas gifts for family and friends so I am just curious if you have any tips on maybe the proper time to pour it into jars so that a) you can get the maximum amount of syrup in the jar (ours separated and lost volume because of the foam settling) and b) it doesn’t separate or look ugly in the jar. Thank you in advance!

      Hello Brittany!
We are so excited that you liked our Buttermilk Syrup recipe! We are so sorry you had some problems with it!
We don’t know for sure if the heat is the reason but it very well could be. We have always let it cool and stirred it well before pouring it into the jars. That would probably be a really good place to start!
Hope this helps and sorry again for the struggles!
Have a fantastic day and let us know if there is anything else we can do for you 🙂
