With the 4th of July coming up we have picnics and barbecues on our minds! Most people think of lots of meat for the holiday but what about those of us who don’t want any? That is were this Meatless Sloppy Joe mix comes in. It has beans and grains making it a perfect protein along with mushrooms and peppers for fantastic flavor. Who says you can’t eat healthy at a barbecue?

Ingredients

Directions

In a Lodge pan, sauté onion and garlic in oil or butter until they start to brown. Add pepper and continue to brown for a few minutes. Add mushrooms and sauté until mushrooms are also browned. Add all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover with a lid and simmer until thickened. We like to serve these on our Quick Rolls. Enjoy!

Trying to figure out the rest of the menu for July 4th? Our KFC Coleslaw the Easy Peasy Way, Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad or our Cilantro Lime Quinoa Salad all make great sides.

You might also like our Best Boston Baked Beans or our Quinoa Bean Platter. Both are to die for!

For some healthy desert try our Party Fruit Bar or our Nutty Sorbet. Both are perfect for your sweet tooth and for your swimsuit 😉

  1. This is really clever. All the flavour, none of the meat. I have vegetarian friends and always struggle to come up with unique ideas – so thanks!!
