Have you heard talk of this new thing called clean eating? The tittle is just starting to play a part in today’s health world, however the theory is far from new. So the question is what is clean eating? Each persons definition will probably be a little bit different, however we wanted to tell you about ours and how it helps our family.
Clean eating is not a fad diet (thank goodness, right?). Clean eating isn’t about taking away a certain type of food (like carbs, salt, gluten, etc.) and it isn’t about adding tons of a certain type of food (only raw foods, protein, etc.). Clean eating is consuming a balanced diet with ingredients that are whole, clean and pure. This means making sure that the source your food comes from is a clean source.
Clean eaters stay away from harmful chemicals such as MSG, artificial colors, artificial flavors, genetically modified food (GMO), nitrates and preservatives among others. Most people are unaware of the fact that these harmful ingredients even exist let alone what they do. We certainly didn’t know a thing about them when we started to learn more about health in the late 90’s. The Feingold program has a ton of good information on this subject.
The ultimate clean food is organic! Food that is organically grown isn’t sprayed with pesticides nor is the seed genetically modified (you can read a great article about this HERE). Organic and free range meat is raised in a pasture instead of a filthy, tiny pen and during the winter months are fed organic feed. In the other months they are outside eating bugs and grasses. Organic produce and meat are free from harmful chemicals. When we mention any ingredient for our recipes we are always using organic food. All the dairy we eat is also mostly raw. Organic produce and meats are raised naturally, the way they have been essentially since the dawn of time, without man made interference.
Now before you start to get overwhelmed, take a deep breath. Realize that it is perfectly okay (and probably best) to take baby steps! All we can each do is start where we are and move forward one step at a time. That’s okay! That’s one of the best parts about clean eating! You can adapt almost every recipe to work with clean ingredients. When we first started our health journey we did the exact same thing. We started exactly where we were and added what we could where we could at the time.
So now the question is “Where to start?” Funny you should ask. We are excited to announce our first E-Book! Clean Eating for Beginners. And here’s the best part… We are offering it completely free when you subscribe to our email list! Can’t beat free right?
Clean Eating for Beginners gives helpful ideas on how to start your transition. It also includes new recipes to give you a feel of how easy clean eating can be. It’s 23 pages long and completely free when you subscribe!
To sum up, essentially clean eating is simply food that is raised and prepared without dangerous chemicals. Our minds and bodies work so much more efficiently and we are happier when we are all squeaky clean on the inside.
It’s also okay to take baby steps and start exactly where you and your family are on your personal health journey. Where else would you start?
Are you a clean eater? Did we leave anything out? Tell us about it in the comments!
