Easy Peasy Chocolate Sugar Cookies – Valentines Day treats to celebrate with your loved ones!

We couldn’t let Valentines Day slip by without doing one more batch of cookies! They are such an easy way to show your love. The added cacao is a real fun twist on sugar cookies. Somehow they just seem even more perfect for Valentines Day! Maybe it’s because our real love is chocolate… Shhhh, don’t tell 😉

A few pointers before we get started are in order. First, we prefer to use whole wheat flour. You can, however, use unbromated white flour. Second, we like to use our Kitchen Aid to make cookies even more easy peasy. They whip up real quick and clean up is much easier. This is of course optional! Lastly, the dough is supposed to be a little sticky before it is chilled. However, you don’t want it so sticky that it can’t be worked with. If you need to you can bake just one cookie after chilling. If it loses its shape you will need to add a little more flour. Now, let’s make some cookies!

Tools for this Recipe:

Chocolate Sugar Cookies

    ½ cup butter
    ½ cup coconut oil
    2 cups sugar
    2 eggs
    1 cup sour cream
    1 Tbs. vanilla
    1 tsp. baking soda
    ½ tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    ½ cup cacao
    4-5 cups flour

Cream together butter, coconut oil, sugar eggs, sour cream and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and mix until well combined. It should be a soft dough. Cover and chill at least 4 hours or over night. Sprinkle counter with a little bit of cacao and roll dough out on counter. Cut dough into desired shapes and bake at 350º until barely golden on the bottom. Baking time depends on the size of the cookie. When cooled frost as desired.

Thank you so much! We are so glad you like them 🙂 We make a simple butter cream frosting by melting 1/3 cup butter. Remove from heat and whisk in 1 Tbs. real vanilla, 2 cups organic powdered sugar and enough milk to make it spreadable. It whips up super fast. Hope this helps and we are so glad you found us! Have a great weekend!

I love the idea of chocolate sugar cookies! I make “regular” ones, but have never tried a chocolate variety. It may just be the recipe to try this weekend for Valentine’s Day! Thanks 🙂
