Why We Drink Raw Milk (And Eat Raw Dairy)

Did you know some of us used to be lactose intolerant? Sounds kind of funny considering we love recipes like our Clean and Comforting Chicken Chowder and Healthy Mac and Cheese. It’s true though! When Melannie and Mitch used to drink milk or eat a bowl of cereal they would cough until their sides hurt and their sinuses really struggled. However, now they both drink milk almost on a daily basis! Sometimes as many as two glasses when it’s our famous Raw Cacao Shake (shhhh don’t tell 🙂 . What is the difference? What happened? Well, we are so glad you asked.
Raw, pastured milk. That’s all! As soon as we switched over to raw dairy their troubles vanished. While it is very true that you need to be cautious about the raw milk you buy, when it is prepared correctly it can come with many benefits. Our friends over at Redmond Heritage Farms said it perfectly in one of their pamphlets: “Real raw milk from pastured cows is a complete whole food that provides more nutrition than any other food (unless you like the taste of raw organs and grubs, which can provide similar nutrition but none of real milk’s creamy, delicious appeal).” Here are some of the reasons we drink raw milk!
Reduced Risk of Allergies
Did you know that the enzyme Lactase is naturally found in milk? The purpose of this enzyme is to break down the milk sugar lactose. When milk is pasteurized Lactase is destroyed. This causes our bodies to work harder to break the lactose down. Many people’s bodies aren’t able to do so . This is what causes them to be labeled “Lactose Intolerant.” Studies show that children who drink raw milk are 50% less likely to develop allergies. Studies also show that they are 41% less likely to develop asthma! It would appear we are not the only ones who lost our “Intolerance” when we lost the pasteurization. 😉 (source).
Optimum Nutrition
Raw, pastured milk is infinitely higher in nutrition than pasteurized milk. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D Vitamin K2, Omega-3’s, Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium are some of the important nutrients that are found in raw milk. When the pasteurization process takes place most of these important nutrients are diminished or destroyed completely. The health benefits that can follow some of these vitamins and minerals are heart health, bone density, brain support, nervous system support, hormonal balance, reduced inflammation and aiding the building of lean muscles.
Once again, it is very important to make sure you are getting your raw milk from a reliable source. Don’t just trust anyone. Make sure you research to find the best quality.
If you happen to live in Utah (or if you are ever passing through) check out Redmond Heritage Farms! They have the most incredible raw, pastured milk we have ever tasted! After years of being customers we fully feel that we can trust them to provide only the highest quality. They have locations in Salt Lake, Orem, Heber, Redmond, and St. George.
Have you ever tried raw milk?

I wouldn’t buy any thing except raw milk. I sure don’t trust buying the white hormone and antibacterial stuff from the store. I also make my own raw yogurt from raw milk and I love it. We are lucky because we have it available locally. Thanks for the great information. Sharing.
